Things to keep in mind if traveling with Kids

Traveling with kids to Ladakh need good preparation and has to be a well prepared journey well suited according to our little travelers. If you think if traveling with a baby to Ladakh should really be done or not so the answer is completely Yes! People visit all the time since Ladakh is more of a tourist destination now and you can really find whatever you need here in case needed. But we will still try to update you with how and what to carry while traveling with babies.

Minimum Age of Baby for Ladakh visit

Since Ladakh is a high altitude area, so we recommend for you to take your child to Ladakh until he/she turns atleast one. Although its no limitation for any age but babies under 3 months of age still don’t have their lungs developed properly so it is not recommended to carry a baby of under 3 months of age at all to ladakh.

Traveling to Ladakh with an Infant

If you have traveled before with your infant to other places like Himachal and the like and its been okay with the baby, we can hope it will be okay in Ladakh too. Although you have to be particular about a few things. 

  1. If your baby is smaller than 6 months, we recommend on keep feeding your child with bm/formula whenever possible without overfeeding them. The key is to keep them hydrated and also because that their should not get ears blocked which normally happens during flights or at high altitudes.
  2. Carry an electric kettle of 1 liter to warm water or rinse bottle if you are feeding formula milk to your child.
  3. Try to remain patient with your LO at all times even when he is fussy.
  4. Be very careful about not over stuffing your child with extra pair of clothes. They should be able to breathe easily. Be very careful about their oxygen intake.
  5. Request your driver to have oxygen cylinder in your car when ever you are in the car. If not purchase it for your child’s safety.
  6. Carry a pacifier if your child is small and gets fussy while sleeping. Remember you have to keep patience to have a clear head with the baby.
  7. Carry the baby in a stroller/carrier if you can. You will not get over tired.
  8. Prescribe the basic medicines by the pediatrician like for fever, tummy roll for tummy ache, saline nasal drops for blocked nose, for motions, thermometer.
  9. Don’t forget to carry your babies favorite toys.
  10. Lastly don’t forget to carry extra set of clothes in case the baby pukes, tissues, diapers and rash cream.

Be extra vigilant for the baby won’t be able to tell you about the Mountain Sickness. Mother knows whats new or different about their child so believe in your instincts during your journey.

Traveling to Ladakh with a Toddler

  1. If your baby is between 6 months-1 year, now is when you must have started giving solid foods to baby along with milk. Carry the ready foods all the time which you have already given to your child. Keep in mind not to introduce anything to your baby on the tour for the baby might be allergic.
  2. Ask your hotel staff in advance for they can prepare or order before it’s time for your baby to eat.
  3. Keep your baby hydrated with water, glucose, ORS solution.
  4. Do not force-feed or over-feed your child.
  5. Carry extra set of woolens even during June month, for it may get chilly.
  6. Keep applying baby cream, lip balm more often and a sunscreen when going out in sun due to the direct sun-rays tanning your baby’s soft skin.
  7. Keep nursing your child with bm/fm whenever your baby demands.
  8. Do not stay for long at high altitude passes.

Traveling with a 1 year to 2 year kid

  1. Carry a lot of ready to eat munching stuff for your baby. You must have introduced everything by now so you know if your child has more of sweet tooth or likes to much on salty-slicy foods.
  2. Check with the hotel kitchen to not add too much of spices to your child’s food or prepare as your kids like it.
  3. Do not let your baby exert much before the sun is out or after sun set.
  4. Ask your hotel staff in advance for they can prepare or order before it’s time for your baby to eat.
