Sonar Quila
The Jaisalmer Fort, pronounced differently as the “Sonar Quila” or “Sonal Kella” or “Sonar Kila” which means Golden Fort is a “living working fort”. It means that unlike any other forts, people reside inside this mega structured fort and work within its walls. Standing as a crown atop the city, the views makes you feel like entering the Arabian Night Fables for real. Jaisalmer Fort is home to Raj Mahal , where kings and queens used to live also houses guesthouses, majestic hotels, restaurants, temples, handicraft stores and what not! It was built by Rajput rular Jaisal in 1156. This fort is definitely the highlight of Rajput Legacy.

Desert Safari

It is the most popular tourist attraction and helps you witness the rustic, rural heritage and culture of Rajasthan.The picturesque panoramic experience during sunset and dawn at camel safari is one of the best things to do in Jaisalmer. To set off for an ideal desert safari, Sam Sand dunes is an ideal location.Desert Safari is also conducted on jeeps. Gadisar Lake
Located just a km away from Jaisalmer Fort, Gadisagar Lake was constructed in 14th century by Maharawal Gadsi Singh to meet the water needs of his dry land.It’s a rain water lake surrounded by shrines around it converting it into pilgrimage sight.Temples sitting out in water as they are floating offers a panoramic view. Visiting the serene and peaceful Lake during sunrise is one of the best things. Boat rides can also be availed in the lake.

Jain Temples
 
Situated inside the Jaisalmer Fort, the ancient 7 Jain Temples carved out of yellow sandstone are famous all over the world for the Dilwara architecture are a must visit places of Jaisalmer.The minute details inside the multi-roomed, multi-level temple are phenomenal. Dedicated to famous Jain hermits known as ‘Tirthankaras’ Shambhavdevji and Rikabdevji who taught how to achieve Nirvana. All temples are connected by walkways and corridors. It is mandatory to take off your leather articles and shoes before visiting any Jain temples.

Kuldhara Village
Kuldhara village, situated around 20 km from Jaisalmer was once a prosperous town. It has spooky yet intriguing tales attached to its history and thus an absolutely must be included destination in your itinerary. There have been stories of paranormal activities in and around the village.Legend has it that the entire population of the village left the settlement overnight to save the honor of chief’s daughter from evil clutches of minister who forced the chief to give her in marriage and set a deadline. It was like the entire town vanished in the course of a single night. With about 85 villages full of people, it remains a mystery as to how no one saw them leave; in fact, even to this date, no one knows where all of them went either. The village remains uninhabited to the day, in the same state that the villagers had left it, hundreds of years ago.

Desert National Park
One of the largest national parks in the country, Desert National Park is an intriguing desert with small salt water lakes, craggy rocks, dunes which consist of about 20% of the park, defying all stereotype notions of non availability of flora and fauna in the desert.Spread around an area of 3162 sq km, it is located close to Thar desert.

Bada Bagh
Bada Bagh which literally means Huge Garden located about 6 km North of Jaisalmer. The gleaming Golden cenotaphs appear like mirage in desert due to the Chattris looking like desert. The garden has cenotaphs of all Maharajas, royal members and prestigious Rajput kings of 6 centuries.The striking appearance is the plaques of Maharaja and Maharani together on a cenotaph indicating that the queen committed Sati(threw herself in her husbands funeral pyre)

Puppet Show

 

No tour of Rajasthan is complete without its engaging Puppet show. The desert culture centre and museum conducts the puppet show from 6:30 pm tp 7:30 pm. It was the traditional medium of entertainment in old times.
