Famously called the sun city, Jodhpur is said to be a land where sun seems to rise here very hot and bright almost every day of the year. Founded by Rao Jodha in the year 1459, Jodhpur is the second largest city in the state of Rajasthan.The city is famous for its blue buildings, painted to signify that they were occupied by the highest caste in India, Brahmins.Jodhpur is also called The Gateway Of Thar as it is on the edge of Thar Desert.Jodhpur is one of the most enchanting cities of Rajasthan and has diverse classification in its top atrractions.

Mehrangarh Fort
Also known as Mehran fort, Mehrangarh was built in 1459 by Rao Jodha is one of the largest forts in India. Mehrangarh fort overlooks the whole city and is placed on a 150m elevated hill and occupies the top of the hill completely. It is guarded by massive walls all around and the enterance has seven gates each having different name. These are called Fateh Gate,Bhairon Gate, Dedh Kamgra Gate, Marti Gate, Gopal Gate, victory gate and finally Loha Gate each ahving a particular significance to the fort.When MAharaja Man Singh took over Jaipur and Bikaner armies is when Victory Gate was built to commemorate the winning. The term Fort does not agree with the size of the complex for it has Maharaja’s Palace, several temples, Moti Mahal, Sheesh Mahal, Phool Mahal, Chamunda Temple and extensive gardens.Thus it tops the list of “Must visit places of Jodhpur”

Jaswant Thada
Built in the memory of Maharaja Jaswant Singh by his son Maharaja Sardar Singh in 1899 is an intricate marble cenotaph. It is also called Taj Mahal of Marwar for its unmatched beauty. Around 1 km downhill from Mehrangarh Fort, it is built in marble next to a little pond featuring portraits of Rathore rulers.

Mandore Gardens
Mandore was the capital of Marwar before Jodhpur came into existence. Mandore Garden is situated in Mandore which is 7 km from the city of Jodhpur and offers a sight to behold.Its striking feature is the Hall of Heroes has 16 figurines carved on a single rock. It also houses the temple of three hundred million gods.The chivalrous splendor of Marwar era is visible in its architectural structure.

Umaid Bhawan Palace
Umaid Bhawan Palace,situated on the highest point of the city is the last great palace built in India. It was completed in 1944. The Maharaja of Jodhpur and his royal family lives here still and half building is converted to a 5-star building. A fusion of Indian and European style of architecture is found here.The museum inside displays old pictures of Maharajas and his family.

Ghanta Ghar

Jodhpur, Clock Tower

Constructed by Maharaja Sardar Singh, clock tower is a famous landmark of old city of Jodhpur. The tower dominates entire city. The Market known as Sadar Bazar next to the clock towers has more than 7000 shops in it.
