Palampur

Located at a distance of about 35 km from Dharamshala, nestled amidst the enchanting Dhauladhar ranges and slopes of Kangra valley lies the majestic ‘Green Valley’ of Himachal Pradesh given the name for its emerald green Tea plantations. The tea produced here is famous worldwide. Palampur derives its name from the word ‘Pulum’ meaning lots of water. Palampur has been the tea estate since the 18th century when the British ruled India and achieved its International fame. Bundla TeaEstate complex is the oldest tea estate which is around 200 years old from all other Tea Estates into the region. Its the perfect offbeat location to offer a tranquilizing and calming atmosphere tpo its visitors. Also known for its colonial architecture and temples, and attracting avid enthusiasts for adventure sports like hang-gliding and trekking that takes place in Palampur, it’s the perfect destination for everyone to visit.

 

Best Time to visit Palampur

At the onset of summer season from March to June is the perfect time to visit Palampur known for its natural sighseeings. July to September are at full bloom due to carpeted fields all around Palampur and tea- gardens and Saurav Van- Vihar appear the best during monsoons.

Tea Gardens

The walk in and around tea gardens is the most refreshing and major attraction of Palampur. No wonder it is called the ‘Tea Capital of Northern India’. The aroma of tea fields is like stepping into true haven for tea lovers. Tourists are briefed about making perfect tea heightens their delightful experience. Kangra Tea is the most famous of all teas.

Neugal Khad

Situated around 4 km from Palampur, Neugal Cafe offers a pleasant view of the picnic location. A small pond inside the park is the best place to sit and relax enjoying nature and snacks from the cafe.

Saurabh Van Vihar

 

Situated around 5 km from Palampur, situated on the banks of Neugal Khad, Saurabh Van Vihar is a beautiful park covering a total area of around 13 km, dedicated as the symbol to honor the brave soldier Saurabh Kalia who was matryred in the Kargil war. The drive down the park is also a great xperience coming across huge trees on the road side, mountains towards the river side. After parking, tourists have to cross a tri-color hanging bridge to reach Van Vihar. A clear water stream flowing close and overlooking the snow-clad mountains is enchanting. Sitting in the cold and refreshing water on huge pebbles, while enjoying the Dhauladhar ranges is an awe-strucking experience.

Chamunda Devi Temple

Dedicated to goddess Chanmundeshwari, Chamunda Devi temple is located at a distance of around 10 km on the banks of river Baner. The temple presents the engravings from scenes of Ramayana and Mahabharata. It has a beautiful pond inside of its premises.

Pottery at Andretta

At a diatance of around 12 km from Palampur,Andretta is an artist’s village where you can try your hands on pottery at nominal prices. The concept was mainly started ny Mansimran Singh in 1983. Shobha Singh Art Gallery has made this tourist attraction quite famous. Potter’s studio which lies a little off road is the shop which sells whatever the studio makes.

Tashi Jong Monastery

Situated away from the hassle of the city presenting a peaceful aura to detox the souls is Tashi Jong Monastery, is also an abode for Tibetian Refugees who complete their rituals and studies here . The place also houses a crafts emporium where tourists can buy Tibetan artifacts and take them home as souvenirs. The complex has a Tibetan restaurant to satiate your palate of some lip-smacking Tibetan dishes.
